Reverend & The Makers to support Noel Gallagher on UK tour

This story was actually announced by Noel’s mailing list a few days ago but the NME hasn’t gone wild about it like it normally does with any Noel-related news story so I thought I’d pick up upon it (Seeing as Mumblings & Ramblings is the next biggest music magazine in the UK!! Ahem…)

At first, when I heard R&TM were playing I was pleased – I’ve never seen them and I like Jon McClure, but I didn’t know much of their music. Since them, I’ve picked up their second album ‘A French Kiss In The Chaos’ and i must say it’s very good! If their first album is as good as this I think I’ve found a band I really like but who had rather passed me by up until now.

Most indie fans will know ‘Heavyweight Champion of the World’ but if you don’t know anything else by them I’d recommend you check them out! Here’s a song to get you started:

RockNess 2012 Line Up Announced

At midnight last night Scotland’s second biggest music festival (as far as I’m aware) RockNess announced its lineup, then confirmed in a poster this morning at 9am. For anyone who hasn’t seen the line up but has been considering going to the festival here it is:

Personally it doesn’t strike me as a great line up, but it would appear they’ve focused on getting in the dance acts so far. It’ll be interesting to see how it develops when they start announcing some guitar bands but as it stands I’d have no plans to visit RockNess this year.

Although I’m sure both Biffy Clyro and Mumford & Sons will be great they’re not exactly breathtaking headliners: Biffy have been everywhere the last few years and Mumford only have only album. (Should be noted that other headliner Deadmaus5 played T In The Park 2011 too). Other than those two only Noah & The Whale really stand out for me but they too were at T In The Park, Reading & Leeds and other festivals last year. Also, Ed Sheeran in a slot that high seems pretty poor to me and has drawn a lot of criticism on the RockNess forums.

Looks like a bit of a let down from RockNess so far but if you’re a dance fan you’ll be loving Deadmau5, Justice and a lot of the other, I’d imagine anyway.

Finally, I’d note that this probably rules all of these acts out of playing T In The Park this summer.

Partick Thistle 2 – 1 Stenhousemuir

I had a rare feeling of optimism before the start of the season today in the Ramsden Cup against Stenhousemuir. It’s not so much that Thistle have strengthened our team but that other teams in our league seem to have lost a lot of players while we’ve only lost a couple. Beating Celtic last weekend only helped to increase the good feeling.

So a home game against Stenny seemed like a good chance to get off to a winning start, which we did. It wasn’t the most glamorous of victories but it was a victory nonetheless and that’s what matters.

It’s always nice to see David Rowson get a goal even if his opening goal today was somewhat of a fluke, taking a huge deflection off off a Stenny defender. There was nothing flukey about Tommy Stewart’s goal though, with the striker taking the ball well from a Kris Doolan pass and slotting a cool finish into the far corner whilst running away from goal.

Thistle looked pretty tight at the back all game despite the absence of club captain Alan Archibald, with David Rowson taking over the captain’s armband. Centre back pairing Conrad Balatoni and Willie Kinniburgh strolled through most of the game with full backs Aaron Sinclair and Paul Paton both strong on the attack and in defence. Stenny’s goal was a strange one, a looped ball to the back of the defence where Stewart Kean knocked the ball down into the ground before it bounced over ‘keeper Scott Fox and into the net.

It’s good to get the first match out of the way with a victory and Thistle now move onto the next round of the Ramsden Cup and look ahead to playing Berwick at Firhill next week in the League Cup.

David Rowson

Thistle line up:

1. Scott Fox
2. Paul Paton
3. Aaron Sinclair
4. Stuart Bannigan
5.Willie Kinniburgh
6. Conrad Balatoni
7. Iain Flannigan
8. David Rowson
9. Kris Doolan
10. Tommy Stewart
11. Chris Erskine

Whilst i won’t put the Stenny line up here, I’ll mention they had six ex-Thistle players, pretty unbelievable! (Stevie Murray, Kev McKinlay, Eric Paton, Martyn Corrigan and Brown “what a wierd name” Ferguson and Chris McCluskey). Murray in particular looked threatening throughout the match and it was lucky for the Jags that his team mates didn’t match his standard, although their big #5 certainly did.
